Phillip Asbury Lomax

October 28, 1935 — February 14, 2018

Phillip Asbury Lomax, 82, of Athens, passed away on February 14, 2018, at home after a lengthy bout with Parkinsonism.

He was born October 28, 1935, in Statesville, NC, to the late C. Bret Lomax and Marian Phillips Lomax. Phillip grew up in the North Wilkesboro, NC area and graduated from Duke University with a BA in Business Administration. He then graduated from the Naval Officers' Candidate School and received a commission as an Ensign. He served three years in the United States Navy. He later moved to Pensacola, FL, and received designation as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) while employed by the Monsanto Corporation. Phillip lived in Athens, GA, the last twenty years of his life and was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church. He enjoyed music, reading, woodworking, and photography.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Sarah Shatley Lomax; his children, S. Elizabeth Lomax of Pensacola, FL and C. Bret (Susan) Lomax of Pace, FL; two sisters: Mary L. (Edwin) Todd of Athens, GA and Martha L. (George) Bostic of York, SC; two grandchildren: Shannon H. (Robert) Merritt of Port Orange, FL, and Ryan (Ashley) Troutman of Pace, FL; two great-grandchildren: Kate Ryan Troutman of Pace, FL, and Gus Huilker of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews: Shane (Carrie Leigh) Todd of Athens, GA, Mary Kathryn T. (Bryan) van Eerden of Midlothian, VA, Marian B. (Tom) Garner of Rock Hill, SC, Ginny B. (Bill) Oliver of Columbia, SC, Susan B. (David) Aaronstein of Dunwoody, GA, Victor (Josie) Middlekauff of Culpeper, VA, and Gordon (Pam) Middlekauff of Vinton, VA.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 17 at Tuckston United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:45-11:30 a.m. before the service. Interment will follow at Mountlawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro, NC.
