Peggy Walden Ray, 73, of Athens passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Born on March 15, 1948 in Oak Ridge, TN, she was the daughter of the late Fred Walden and Virginia Guess Walden.
Peggy was raised in Childersburg, AL where she met the love of her life, Vernon Ray, at the local Dairy Queen. She lived for her children and grandchildren and did not miss any event. Peggy took care of everything and everyone at home and was always present in her family’s life. She was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church and the Gatekeepers Sunday School Class. She had a wide social circle and was always on the go. She enjoyed spending afternoons playing bridge with her friends, loved to travel, read, shop and play Candy Crush. She served as Treasurer for the Bread of Life Club and the Green Acres Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Vernon Ray; children, Christy Bowden, Nita (Lee) Stegall, Robert (Tonia) Ray; six grandchildren, Joey Stegall, Ryan Stegall, Brett Fraysher, Harlee Ray, Allison Stegall, Brooke Fraysher.
A memorial service will be held at Tuckston United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 4:00pm with visitation beginning at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tuckston United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
