Peggy Bailey Hancock, 89, of Athens, GA, passed away on Thursday, April 21. 2016. A native of Athens, Mrs. Hancock was a daughter of the late S. H. Bailey, Jr. and Myrtle Akin Bailey. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry S. Hancock, and her brothers, Henry Donald Bailey and Terry Joe Bailey. Mrs. Hancock was retired from the University of Georgia. For many years, she volunteered with the American Red Cross. She was a lifelong member of Tuckston United Methodist church.
Survivors include daughter Beverly Wallischeck (John) of Panama City Beach, FL; son Harry Hancock of Watkinsville; daughters-in-law Margie Hancock of Athens and Sandra Hancock of High Shoals; sister-in-law Faye Bailey of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren Jay Hancock and Scott Hancock of Athens; Mandy Thornton (Craig) of Torrance, CA; Harry Hancock, Jr. of Watkinsville; Heidi Bruner of Watkinsville; Lelon James Creazzo (Laura) of Enterprise, AL; Preston Howe (Kelly) of Minneapolis, MN; Gregory Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren Derek Hancock, Mara Hancock, Camila Thornton, Miles Thornton, Christian Bruner, Kaelin Creazzo, Jacien Creazzo, Karl Creazzo, Cody Hancock, Nichole Brown; nieces Donny Bailey Seagraves (Phillip) and Leanne Bailey Benson (Ken) of Cleveland, TN; and nephew Mike Bailey of Clio, SC. Mrs. Hancock also is survived by numerous special and devoted friends including Martha Phillips and Phyllis Newman.
The family will receive friends for visitation 1-2 PM, Sunday, April 24, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East with a memorial service to follow at 2 PM. If you are a recipient of one of the more than 110 afghans crocheted by Mrs. Hancock, it was her wish that you bring your afghan with you to the service to hang behind you on the pew. Mrs. Hancock loved the beach and requested that her ashes be scattered by family and dear friends at Tybee Island where she enjoyed some of the best days of her life.
