Peggy Sue Hale, 86 of Athens died peacefully in her sleep on November 22, 2021. The daughter of the late Dr. Paul L. Piercy and Lucile M. Piercy was born in Columbia, MO, grew up in Bryan, TX and Baton Rouge, LA and came to Athens in 1948 where she graduated from the University of Georgia Demonstration High School in 1953 and attended the University of Georgia where she studied art. She married the love of her life, Hugh R. Hale in 1955.
The deceased was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Hugh R. Hale. She survived by her sons David Hale (Marianne) of Athens, GA and Andy Hale (Terri) of Lillington, NC, grandchildren, Maggie McLean (Josh) of Hemingway, SC, Daniel Hale and Andrew Hale of Raleigh, NC, Catherine Hower (Bryce) of Phoenix, AZ, great grandchildren Joseph McLean, Alice McLean and Jacob McLean of Hemingway, SC, and sister, Mary Beussee of Athens, GA.
Peggy attended Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother who anchored her family and supported them in every way possible. She loved to sew, decorate, design home furnishings and collect shoes. Later in life she developed a love of travel and toured the United States and Canada.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26 at the Lord and Stephens Chapel East in Athens at 12:00 PM. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:00. Daniel and Andrew Hale will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (https://www.diabetes.org/).
