Peggy Payne Frantz, 83, died July 7, 2018 at home surrounded by family. Born March 5, 1935, in Falkville, AL, Peggy was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lois Price Payne. She graduated from Marshall County High School and Jacksonville State University, where she was Homecoming Queen of 1957. She also received a degree of Master of Education from the University of Georgia.
In 1958 she married Robert G. Frantz. They celebrated over fifty-seven years of marriage before his death in 2016.
Peggy taught at Oconee County High School for almost twenty-five years where she was the long time advisor of FBLA. She left Oconee County High School in 1993 to work with the Georgia Board of Education at Northeast Georgia RESA. Peggy was a long-standing member of Friendship Presbyterian Church serving many years as treasurer and on the Session.
Being a mother to her sons and daughter-in-laws and especially a grandmother to their children was her most cherished role. She was known by her grandchildren and most of their friends simply as "Mawmaw".
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 9, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Friendship Presbyterian Church with The Reverend J. Thomas Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8.
Survivors include her three sons, Robert Scott (Mary) Frantz of Winter Park FL and their children, Courtney (Rob) Williams, Bobby and Maggie; Gary Alan (Shari) Frantz of Statham, GA and their children, Kaylee, Kole, and Kannon; John Steven (Joanne) Frantz of Watkinsville, GA and their children, Leah and Sara; niece Sandra (Phil) Provence of Guntersville, GA and their children Shannon (Kiley) and Justin Provence.
