Peggy Joyce Amsler

Peggy Joyce Amsler (Griffeth), passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, at the Georgia War Veteran's Home, Milledgeville, GA., at the age of 92. Born 19 June, 1931 to Lola and Lambert Griffeth, of Bogart, GA.
Peggy joined the U.S. Air Force shortly after graduating high school. After completing basic training in San Antonio, TX, she was assigned to Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, serving under General Curtis LeMay, and later joined the Wisconsin Air Nation Guard, in Milwaukee.
She inspired many women who came after her to join the Air Guard, one of whom became one of the first female KC-135 Stratotanker pilots of that unit. Peggy served her country in civilian and military capacities for over 3 decades, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.
Peggy loved sports, having played basketball in high school, and on a softball team in the Air Force. She also loved watching the "Dawgs", and the Green Bay Packers on television.
After retiring from the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1990, she returned to her beloved Georgia, settling in Athens.
Peggy is survived by her sons Kenneth and Greg and wife Wendy Pagel, sisters Betty Lent and Eleanor Griffeth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents Lola and Lambert, brothers Lloyd and D.W.(Bubba), and Doug Griffeth, sisters Dorothy Hester, and Jan Lee. Also husbands Kenneth Pagel Sr., Walter P. Amsler, and Richard Brennan.
Visitation at Lord and Stevens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Rd, Athens GA., from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon Friday, 17 November, 2023. Internment to follow at Bethabara Baptist Cemetery, 4651 Monroe Hwy, Statham, GA 30666.
