Peggy Marie Alewine, 87, died June 28, 2012.
Born in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Carlmore Daniel and Doris Deadwyler Maddox and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael D. Alewine and siblings, Vivian Maddox, Edgar Daniel and Doris Ann Hayes.
Mrs. Alewine was the widow of S.T. Alewine (1996). Together with her late husband, she was co/owner, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer of C.P. Alewine and Sons, Inc. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities. These included teaching children's ministry for a number of years, teacher of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class for 10 years, assistant Treasurer, Chairman of the Finance Committee, captain of the Bereavement Committee, member of the Nominating Committee, member of the Counting Team and member of the Visitation Team.
Survivors include her sons, Curtis T. Alewine (Sue) of Athens, Sammy T. Alewine (Polly) of Bogart, Dennis A. Alewine (Decia) of Athens and Steve Alewine of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Todd Alewine (Connie), Terri Alewine, Paul Alewine (Gail), Kevin Alewine, Derek Alewine, Dustin Alewine and Demi Alewine; great grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey, Lindsay, Ryan, Trey, Joni, Kendall, Addie and Aidan; great great grandchildren, Marlee and Maci and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Carpenter, Dr. Joel Dover and Rev. David Maddox officiating. Mrs. Alewine will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Todd Alewine, Paul Alewine, Kevin Alewine, Derek Alewine, Dustin Alewine and Ryan Davison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerome Malcolm, Donnie Ingram, James Huff, O'Neal Brooks, Frank Meadows, Jr., Thurmond Alewine, Bill Johnson, Charlie Marcus, Foster Daniel and W.J. Maddox.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.
