Pauline (Polly) Minish Holcomb, age 99, died Sunday, January 7, 2018.
She was born on April 7, 1918 in Jackson County, but lived most of her life in Athens. She was the daughter of James Luther Minish and Fannie Artie Minish. She was the 6th of 9 children and the last remaining. Their names were JP Minish, Bess Harrison, Ruth Tolbert, Reuben Minish, Vallie Minish, Ellis Minish, Dot Burroughs, and Odell Minish.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Holcomb. They were married 52 years until his death in 1989. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind a heritage that taught all of her family the importance of faith in Jesus Christ. Her life reflected that deep faith all the days of her long life.
Survivors include her son, Gregory F. Holcomb (Jennifer) of Athens; daughter, Brenda H. Werner (John) of Athens; granddaughter, Heather Werner of Athens; grandsons, Lin (Adrienne) Holcomb of Atlanta, and Johnny (Michelle) Werner of Ringgold, GA; two great-grandchildren, Colby and Lydia Werner of Ringgold, GA. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Holcomb was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church since 1952. She was a longtime resident of Lanier Gardens.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating.
In lieu of flowers. Contributions may be made to the General Fund or to the XYZ Travel Fund of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
