Paul James Messer Jr died Sunday, September 21, 2014. He left this world to join the love of his life, his wife which he missed dearly since her passing. He was an Owner/Operator with McDonald's Corporation for 45 years, a Navy Veteran, a member of the UGA Catholic Center, and a member of Athens Country Club and Champion Hills Golf Club.
He had a long, wonderful life filled with family, faith and friends. His philanthropic soul had no boundaries and his acts of kindness touched many people in this community and beyond. He was most passionate about the Ronald McDonald House in Atlanta, in which he founded in 1979. He loved traveling, fine food and a great round of golf, which would not have been complete without a friendly game of cards.
A native of Chicago, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joan, parents, Paul James Messer Sr and Pearl Johnston Messer and his brother Robert Messer.
He is survived by his five children, Paul (Shari) Messer, Kim Kyle, Patsy(Joey) Caviness, Lynn(Todd) Hawkins and Matt(Kristi) Messer; grandchildren, Hayden, Conley, Christopher, Nicole, Blake, Jordan, Taylor, Haley, Gately, Ryan, Peyton, Logan and Ashley; siblings, Shirley Donnellan and Tom Messer.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:30 A.M. at the Catholic Center with Father Thomas F. Vigliotta, ofm celebrant. A reception will immediately follow at the Athens Country Club.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House, 795 Gatewood Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.
