Patrick Aden Brewer

October 9, 1931 — December 5, 2024

Watkinsville, GA

Patrick Aden Brewer of Watkinsville, GA passed away peacefully December 5, 2024 at the age of 93. Patrick was born in Houston, AR to Harvey Aden Brewer and Gladys Dorne Firestone Brewer. The youngest of 2 children, he was predeceased by his sister, Betty Jane and by his son Roger Brewer, youngest of 3 sons. Growing up in Perryville, AR, the family continues to discover the legend he was then and continues to be. He joined the Army, serving in the Korean War while stationed in Germany. After the service he attended the University of Arkansas on a track scholarship, and also joined the Razorback football team as a halfback (then “split back”) after the coach witnessed his blazing speed. His remarkable speed found him competing against Olympic athletes routinely. He received his B.S.I.E and worked as an Engineer in the automotive industry (Chrysler) and ultimately in the healthcare industry for Baptist Medical Systems. Previous organizations in which he was involved include Arkansas Association for Hospital Engineers, American Association for Hospital Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, Lions Club, Registered Plant Engineer, Jaycees, Band Parents Association, University of Arkansas Letterman’s Association, member of the original Perryville High School Band, Masonic Lodge Past Master, Shriners, American Karate Association, Baptist Medical System Toastmasters, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania Sports Official, and American Institute of Industrial Engineers.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Carolyn, Watkinsville, GA; children: Rhonda Bogdanow (Alex), Martinez GA; Rick Brewer (Gina), Watkinsville, GA; Rand Brewer, Little Rock, AR; and Reesa Stickney, Mayflower, AR. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren had ample time to spend with him before the Lord called him home. He was a Believer that guided and oversaw his family well. His accomplishments, too numerous to list, included: speed demon on the track (holding many records), semi-pro football player, coach, mentor, elite athlete, loyal friend/relative, umpire, referee, artist, incredible memory, voice of reason, methodical decision-maker, just to name a few. Although tough as nails on the outside, he may have been one of the most kind-hearted persons you’d ever meet…indeed a rare combination.

He persevered through many medical diagnoses, to include 3 open heart operations, orthopedic injuries too numerous to list undoubtedly from the rigors of NCAA football, and many others that contributed to his failing health his family had the privilege of assisting him through. Until the end, his most frequent question was “is Mom OK?”, having looked after her ever since they laid eyes on each other in West Fork, AR. He never once complained about feeling bad and accepted his condition(s) with dignity. He will be missed enormously by family who know he is no longer struggling.

The family has forever been blessed by this great man who left us with a bit of “Southern Slang” which they will always hold dear to their hearts…”cotton-pickin’”, “dagnabit” and “for cryin’ out loud” just to name a few. He will never be forgotten and will always be held in highest esteem. All are welcome to honor this larger than life person. Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton, AR will conduct the service on Jan. 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following will be a graveside service at Cherry Hill Cemetery. From there a gathering and “Celebration of Life” will follow at Perryville United Methodist Church, all are welcome. God Bless Pops, we’ll meet up again, love you much.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, Athens, GA is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
