Patricia “Pat” Mercer, 88, became a beautiful angel in heaven when she passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020. She was the beloved daughter, and one of ten children, of the late Ernest and Eula Austin. Born and raised in Mangham, Louisiana she lived in Watkinsville, Georgia most of her adult life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Jesse Mercer and two sons: Shane Mercer (Carol) of Watkinsville, Georgia and Barry Mercer (Donna) of Warner Robins, Georgia; one grandchild, Diana Mercer of Gainesville, Georgia, three step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Gertrude “Gertie” Bernard, of Bunkie, Louisiana.
Pat was a gifted artist. Her greatest passion and pleasure in life came from porcelain painting and the many hours she spent in her studio instructing students on this fine art. She painted beautiful pieces of porcelain which grace many homes throughout the country today and several which have been on display in the Georgia Governor’s Mansion.
She was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia. A classic Southern lady, Pat had a kind, gentle spirit and was greatly loved and adored by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In consideration of COVD-19 and other concerns, a celebration of Pat’s life will be private.
