Athens - Palmer Rundell Brown, 94, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Athens following a brief illness.
Palmer was born and raised in Ishpeming, Mich. He received his B.A. from Northern Michigan University and his M.A.Ed from the University of Michigan.
He was a lifelong educator. Following teaching posts in Capac and Iron Mountain in Northern Michigan, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war, he returned to teaching at Wayne Memorial High School where he taught math and science. He reluctantly left the classroom to become the Assistant Principal, a position in which he excelled and was highly regarded for the next 25 years until his retirement in 1974.
He was married to Dorice I. Brown for 57 years until her passing in 2000. He is survived by his son, Terry R. Brown and wife Nanci and their daughters, Natalie and Juliette; his son David P. Brown and wife, Sandy; his nephew, Frederick Kuehnel and wife Dawn and their daughters, Sarah and Meghanne; and his sister-in-law, Doreen Brown.
Per Palmer's wishes, there will be no memorial service. He asked that rather than mourn his passing, we who knew and loved him celebrate a life well-lived. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
