Lexington - Oneil Pitts, 82, husband of Sara Black Pitts, died Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late James Walter Pitts and Ruby Bell Pitts. Mr. Pitts retried from Chicopee Mills, was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Jewel McDaniel and Geneva Holcomb and one granddaughter, Michelle Williams also preceded him in death.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughters: Linda (Howard) Williams, Debbie (Lamar) Carter and Janice Underwood, all of Lexington, sisters: Agnes Bridges of Washington, Valrie Smith of Carlton, Sybil Walker of Athens, Bell Lynch of Thomson, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 11AM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel. The VFW Post in Lexington will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clark Cemetery, Lexington, GA.
