Ofelia Palma Bergonio, 78, of Athens, died in the morning of June 30, 2022.

She was a devout Catholic and was surrounded by family in her final hours. She was a loving daughter, a loyal wife, a sister to eight, a devoted mother to five, a Lola to seven, and a friend to many! She was predeceased by both her parents, Miguel & Emilia Palma, as well as her husband, Ireneo Bergonio.
Ofelia is survived by her daughters and sons in law: Melody & John-John Cabibihan and Marian & Bien Hoang; sons and daughter in law: Eugene Michael & Analiza Bergonio, Edmund Bergonio, and Philip Bergonio; grandchildren: Leo Angelo Cabibihan, Marie Françoise Cabibihan, David Lee Cabibihan, Eros Michael Bergonio, Caitlin Gabrielle Bergonio, Brandon Li Bergonio Hoang, and Bryce Landon Hoang.
Ofelia was born in Laguna, Philippines. She graduated with her Bachelors in Zoology from the University of Santo Tomas and her Masters Degree from National University. Ofelia and Ireneo were happily married for 35 years until his death in 2008. She spent her early adult years as a teacher and guidance counselor. After immigrating to the US with her husband and most of her children, she helped provide for the family by working at several part-time jobs. Ofelia was heavily involved in the church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was the best mother you could ask for and taught her children so many life lessons. She instilled in them good values that will continue for generations to come.
The family will receive friends and family for her funeral service on Saturday, July 16 at 9 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Americus, Georgia. She will be greatly missed, but the family finds peace knowing she is no longer suffering from any illness or tribulations of this world.
2 Corinthians 12:9. “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
