Norma June (Maikranz) Fowler

It is with great sadness that the family of Norma June Maikranz Fowler announces her passing on March 11, 2019.

A native of Waukegan, IL, Norma was born March 27, 1926 to Frederick William Maikranz and Edna Pearl Patterson Maikranz.

Norma was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School. Upon graduation, she worked in both the Navy Department and the War Department at Great Lakes, Illinois. She met her future husband, Branson, at Great Lakes while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Branson and Norma were married in 1950 and moved from Waukegan, Illinois to Athens, Georgia. While in Athens, Norma worked for and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Norma was a member of the Women of Georgia Power and the Georgia Power Ambassadors for many years. She and Branson were the co-founders of “Happy Squares” square dancing club along with Branson’s oldest brother George and his wife. Norma and Branson celebrated 68 years of marriage last year.

Norma approached life with love, grace, honor, and respect. She was humble, kind, and quiet with a strong constitution. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Edna Pearl Patterson Maikranz, and her brothers, Glen D. Maikranz, Sr. of Waukegan, IL, and Carl D. Maikranz of Arvada, CO. Survivors include her husband Branson; daughter Karen (Paul) Rittler of Oxford, GA, and son Branson Kenneth of Helotes, TX; three grandsons: Branson, Austin, and Dalton of Maryland; sister-in-law Josephine Maikranz of Gurnee, IL; and brother- and sister-in-law Gary and Frances Fowler of Danielsville, GA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 14, at 2:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, and for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park.
