Nathan Thomas "Tom" Elder, 86, died January 3, 2011 at Park Place Nursing Facility in Monroe, GA.
A native of Oconee County, GA, Mr. Elder lived in Greenville, SC from 1955 until 1988 when he retired to Plant City, FL. In 2001, he moved from Florida to Watkinsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ruby Elder and brother, Marvin "Junior" Elder.
He received his Bachelor's of Science Degree from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and practiced pharmacy for forty years and maintained his membership in Georgia and South Carolina Pharmaceutical Association. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Elder's love of golf, dancing and UGA football were known by all.
Survivors include his daughters, Gwen (Sammy) Hansford, Martha (David) Williams; son, Nathan (Lisa) Elder; grandchildren, Holly (Will) Jackson, Scott Hansford, Erin Williams, Tiffany Williams, Palmer Elder and Andra Elder; two great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Mary Elder and three nieces in Ukiah, California.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Jeff Wilkes and Dr. Franklin Shumake officiating. Interment will be in Elder Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
