Natalie Starr Harper Toney, 95, of Athens, died on March 31, 2022.
She was born in Chicago on August 5, 1926. She came south as quickly as she could and never looked back. A graduate of Brenau College in 1948, Natalie joined her parents in running the Old Colony Motor Inn in Athens. She was an active member of the Maxeys community and Maxeys Women's Club during the many years she and husband Johnny Toney lived in Maxeys. Natalie was an active member of the Methodist church, and was grateful that her many electronic devices brought the weekly Athens First United Methodist services to her in recent years.
Natalie was proud to have been a part of the Oglethorpe County Library Committee which was responsible for the construction of the "new" library. She was also an avid supporter of Arts!Oglethorpe and was always in the front row for every Sunday matinee. Natalie also loved quilting and reveled in finding the perfect fabric for each.
For her ninetieth birthday, the ever lively and adventuresome Natalie jumped out of a perfectly good airplane just for the fun of it. It was an adventure she proudly shared with all.
Natalie leaves behind a wonderful group of friends who appreciated her humor, enthusiasm and love of life.
A graveside service will be held at the Maxeys Sunset Cemetery in Maxeys, GA on Sunday April 3 at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oglethorpe County Friends of the Library, UGA Veterinary School Sundown Surgery Fund or the charity of your choosing.
