Nancy Carpenter Roberson, 80, passed away on September 23, 2018.
She was born in Greenville, SC to Thomas S. and Alice Britt Carpenter. Growing up in Greenville with her sister, Miriam, in a nurturing family gave Nancy a wonderful start in life. Her mother, Alice, always encouraged her girls to grow, make friends and try new challenges. Nancy's high school days were often spent with friends in their homes or at high school sporting events. Nancy attended Converse College for two years before transferring to the University of Georgia to study Art. It was in Athens that her passion for art blossomed and her talents as an artist grew. Her love of flowers, gardening and nature is evidenced in her beautiful paintings. Athens is also where, on a blind date, she met a dashing young veterinary student, Edward Roberson, who became the love of her life and her husband of 58 years. Nancy and Ed grew to adore Athens and cultivated a wealth of life-long friends there. Nancy loved her circle of friends in the Athens Art Association, PEO, and her coffee, bridge, and exercise groups. Nancy has been a blessing to all who have known her. She poured her life into her family, friends and community and found deep gratification in service to others. She never forgot a birthday, or a note of sympathy or gratitude. Raising her children, Bentley and Lynne, she described as one of her life's greatest challenges, though it was also one of the most rewarding.
For those who are blessed to have known Nancy, there is peace in knowing that she knew Jesus as her Savior. Her life reflected the fruits of His spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Nancy was described by one of her closest friends as “the best person I have ever known.” Nancy spent an entire life well lived and will be missed by friends and family whom she's left behind.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Dr Edward L Roberson; her sister, Miriam Benston; her son, Dr David Bentley Roberson and his wife, Pam, and grandchildren, Evan, Allen, and Jake; her daughter, Lynne Roberson and her husband, Michael “Ches” Ferguson and her beloved pup, Honey.
