Nancy Jane Bruce

Nancy Jane Bruce, 68, of Athens, GA, died Saturday, January 17, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1946.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard H. (Dick) Bruce; a son and daughter-in-law, Bradford and LeeAnn Bruce, their daughters, Ashlee, Alyssa, and Emily Bruce, of Hamilton, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Dennis Baltz, their daughters Lauren and Rachel Baltz of Powder Springs, GA.
Nancy was a member of the Athens Newcomers Club, the Cotton Patch Quilters, and the Quilting Charity Bee. She was a member of Tuckston UMC where she has held board positions for their weekday children's program. She volunteered with the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church during their annual conferences, and was involved in the CEF (Christian Educators Fellowship) luncheons.
Before moving to Athens with Dick in 1995, Nancy was on staff at St. Timothy UMC in Stone Mountain, GA as the Director of Christian Education and Program. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and served on various boards and communities.
She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was a member of the ASK (Adult Scout Klub) with fellow leaders and friends. Nancy volunteered at her children's schools and has served as President of the PTA.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30PM on Thursday, January 22nd, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home East. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Nancy asked that donations be made to The Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia, Inc., P.O. Box 49309, Athens, GA 30604.
