Athens - Montine Garrett Hammond, 94, died July 18, 2007.
Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Jenkins and Mary Sims Garrett and widow of Howard Burchell Hammond. Mrs. Hammond worked as a substitute teacher in Oconee County Schools for 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Private family graveside services will be Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Bill Ross officiating.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Albert D. Sams, Jr., of Athens and Mrs. Walter Simmons of Columbus; sisters, Mrs. Donald McDougald of Oconee County and Mrs. Stinnie Huff of Lawrenceville; brother, Richard Harold Garrett of Oconee County; grandchildren, Mrs. Ron Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn., Albert Sams, III, of Norcross, Alexander Sams of Athens, Mrs. David Sanabrio of Columbus and Mrs. Michael Marley of Atlanta.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, WEST, Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
