Ms. Mitzi Whitmire Campbell, 63, of Athens, passed away on November 2, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. Whitmire, Jr. and Edith Whitmire.
Ms. Campbell was an active member of Athens First Presbyterian Church. She studied microbiology at the University of Georgia. During the mid-80's and early 90's, Mrs. Campbell established and operated The Serpentine Inn, Athens' first bed and breakfast. She was well-known in the area as one of the few people who still practiced and taught the lost art of chair caning and seat weaving.
She is survived by her children, daughter Anna "Whitney" Hand and her husband Patrick Hand, son Colin Campbell and his wife Jessica Campbell; step-sons, Jacob Ross and his wife Sarah Ross, and Nathan Ross and his wife Greta Ross; grandchildren, Elliot Hand, Apollo Ross and Adelina Ross; and also survived by her ex-husband, Alan Campbell.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 4:00pm at Athens First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Glenn Doak officiating. A reception will follow afterwards in the fellowship hall.
