Mina Thomas

October 16, 1938 — April 30, 2015

Mina Phillips Thomas passed away Thursday, April 30. She was a life-long resident of Oconee County and the cherished daughter of the late Gramie Shelton and Robbie Elder Phillips, and sister to the late Martha Ann Phillips. She is survived by and was the adored bride of Ronnie S. Thomas and the beloved mother of two children, Hope and Wayde and his wife, Carolyn. Had she not been called home, Mina and Ronnie would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this June. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by a number of loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mina was a good citizen, neighbor, and friend and she dearly loved her immediate and extended family and neighbors. She was a homemaker and enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School, singing in her church choir and assisting neighbors, members of her church and members of her community when needed. She was a member of Union Christian Church and a committed supporter of Church of the Nations. When she was a girl, she was active in her home church and sang with a trio in the Oconee County area. She was a teacher's aide and drove a school bus in the Oconee County School System for twenty-two years.
Graveside services are scheduled Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Elder Cemetery on State Route 15, south of Watkinsville near the church and family home where she was raised. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are welcomed for the Elder Cemetery Fund in care of Doyle Elder on State Route 15 in Watkinsville.
