Mimi Belinda Darden, age 74, of Athens, Georgia, passed on December 9, 2024, following a short illness.
She was the daughter of Harold and Frances Darden. A resident of Highland Hill Village, Mimi was reared in Athens. She was in the last graduating class of Athens High School and was active in 4-H and her Church Youth group.
Mimi obtained an Associate’s degree in Child Development from Athens Tech and worked in the Day Care industry. She also attended Roosevelt Warm Springs Academy. There she gained life and vocational skills, but more importantly, many lifelong friends. She remained an advocate for the rights of those with disabilities, participating in groups sponsored by the University of Georgia and Classic City Pilot Club.
Mimi was a Poll Volunteer in Athens-Clarke County for many years. Joys in her life included Georgia Football, attending home games for 60+ years, tv games shows, particularly Jeopardy, traveling (Great Britain, Mediterranean, Mexico, and Israel), the beach and being with her family and friends.
Surviving Mimi are her sister, Cindy Darden, nieces, Angela Benton and Lecia (Kenny) Grunfelder, Godchildren, Ashley Yost and Abraham Manneh and a multitude of family and friends. All who knew her will miss her sweet, loving personality.
Special thanks to Piedmont Athens Regional for the exceptional care they provided to Mimi.
