Bogart - Charles Milton Payne, 76, died August 29, 2007 following a long illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Willie and Allene Austin Payne. Mr. Payne graduated from University High School in 1948. He was retired from Interstate Insurance, as staff manager, after 15 years and Barrett Dodge, as sales agent, after 34 years. He was a 50 year member of Bogart Masonic Lodge and member of Bogart Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 31, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Bogart Baptist Church with Revs. Ted Tedder and Hoyt Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Benjy Payne, Jamie Payne, Wesley Payne, Charlie Payne, Shorty Elrod, David Dunson and Brad Reid.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy House Payne (married July 1, 1950); sons, Jimmy Payne of Bogart and Jeff (Cyndi) Payne of Athens; grandchildren, Benjy Payne of Bogart, Jamie Payne of Hull, Charlie Payne and Wesley Payne of Jefferson; great grandchildren, Rebecca, Tyler and Justin Payne of Monroe; sister, Annie Beth Barton; and brother, Ray Austin Payne.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
