Mildred Elizabeth Baker Herrington died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Athens Heritage Home. She was born in Chicago, IL, April 14, 1916 to the late C. Albert Baker and Rebekah May Baker Baker Hess Nelson.
She was also preceded in death by her brother Donald Lee Baker, her husband of 68 years, Thomas Henry Herrington, Sr., and their son David Edward Herrington.
Mildred was a homemaker for most of her life, and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for twelve years. After Henry and Mildred both retired, they moved from Atlanta to Athens twenty-five years ago to live near their daughter. They were both active caregivers for their parents, and then for their grandchildren. They were longtime members of First United Methodist Church of Albany, GA.
She is survived by her son, Thomas H. Herrington, Jr. and his wife, Beverly Smith Herrington of Lawrenceville, GA, and her daughter, Kay Herrington Waters of Athens, GA.
Her seven grandchildren are Laura Baker Herrington of Phoenix, AZ, Katherine Elaine Herrington of Greenville, SC, Thomas Dominy Herrington (and Peggy) of Chicago, IL, Joseph Boyd Waters, Jr. (and Leila) of Socorro, NM, David Henry Waters (and Sophia) of Watkinsville, GA, Andrew Baker Casto-Waters (and Brandi) of Greer, SC, and Elizabeth Waters Davenport (and Mike) of Watkinsville, GA.
Her ten great-grandchildren are Sean Thomas, Ryan Albert, and Meghan Mary Herrington, Cameron Elaine and Reagan Alexander Waters, Catharine Maria and Thomas David Waters, Ella Kathryn and Baker Louise Casto-Waters, and Michael John Davenport, III.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park.
