Mildred Roberta Burt

October 10, 1922 — February 14, 2022

Winterville

Mildred Roberta Saxon Burt passed away peacefully at her home on February 14, 2022.  She was born October 10, 1922, in Elbert County, Georgia, to the late Eddie Frank Saxon and the late Martha Olivia Grimes Saxon. She married her beloved husband, Dolphus Richerson Burt in August of 1945 and celebrated 47 years of marriage before his death. She was also preceded in death by her oldest son, Dolphus Byron Burt (Connie) of Louisville, GA.

As a longtime resident of Winterville, GA, she was known and loved by the community and by her beloved church, Winterville United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, sewing and cooking and was always eager to share the labor of her love with anyone who came to her door. Mildred will best be remembered for the kindness that she showed to everyone she met, her joyful service to her family and her generous hospitality to everyone; all of which was a natural outpouring of the life of Christ in her. Her life was a living testimony of the love of Jesus expressed in serving others.

From her Last Will and Testament, her own words express it best:

“I commit myself to God’s care, secure in His love for me and trusting in the salvation secured for me through Christ’s death and resurrection. I leave those who survive me the comfort of knowing that I have died in this faith and have now joined my Lord in eternal glory. I commend my loved ones to the protecting arm of God, knowing that He will continue to provide for them despite my absence; and I encourage them to place their faith and trust in Him alone. I urge my heirs not to set their hopes on uncertain riches, but to take hold of the life which is life indeed through faith in Jesus Christ.”

Mildred is survived by her son, Dennis Millard Burt of Anderson, SC and her daughter, Chrystal Ann Gabriel (Danny) of Jasper, GA. Also left to cherish the memories they made with Mildred are five grandsons, eleven great-grandsons, four granddaughters and seven great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Adkins of Perry, GA, and Eddie Frank Saxon, Jr. of Crawford, GA.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 18, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home Eastside, Athens, GA.
