BullDawg Nation's bark just got a little more heavenly. Michael Woods, one of Athens' native sons, and arguably the greatest fan of all things UGA sports, was a larger-than-life presence known to all simply as "Big Dawg." Mr. Woods passed away Wednesday, January 4 at the age of 65.
After serving his country in the Army, Mike went on to have a successful career in sales, was elected Commissioner of Madison County, and enjoyed the honor as Aaron's 2009 Super Fan of the Year.
Mr. Woods was the son of the late Lonnie and Mary Alice Woods of Athens. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Stacks Woods, sister Collette Woods, sons Michael and Trent, daughter Laura, daughters-in-law Christine and Mandy, grandchildren Hampton, Heidi, and Emily, as well as Aaron, Chrissy, and Hadley Robinson.
Services will be held at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home East Tuesday, January 10, at 11:00 AM.
Visitation will be Monday, January 9 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the Woods family asks that donations be made in his name to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
