Michael Jarad Blanton passed away peacefully at the age of 44 from a cardiac event on July 18, 2021, at his home in Athens, Georgia. Born August 16, 1976, to parents Deborah and Michael Blanton, Jarad grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and attended Boiling Springs High School, where he played the bassoon and saxophone in the band. His love of music continued as he joined the marching band at the University of South Carolina, playing the saxophone. Jarad’s love of cooking began by watching his mother and grandmothers show their love through delicious, Southern food. Jarad carried on this tradition during his almost twenty-year career in the food industry in Spartanburg and Athens. Jarad’s friends remember his authenticity, larger-than-life personality, and love of the band Phish. Jarad’s family remember his love of Christ and relentless pursuit to fulfill God’s purpose. Jarad’s wife and daughter remember his unwavering love that envelops them still and his tender, steadfast heart.
Jarad was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Deborah Anderson Blanton, originally from Winder, GA. He is survived by his wife, Maggie Kerins Blanton, and daughter, Eleanor Blanton, both of Athens; his father, Michael Blanton, brother Justin Blanton and wife Amy, all of Spartanburg; and brother Jody Blanton, wife Jordan, and children Cadence and Shiloh, all of Southeast Asia.
The memorial service will be held on Jarad’s birthday, Monday, August 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sparrow’s Nest by visiting https://www.sparrowsnestathens.org/get-involved .
