Athens - Michael William Gollner Sr., 94, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at his residence.
Born in Sharon, Pa., he was the son of the late Michael and Katherine Wolff Gollner. Mr. Gollner served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps.), was a member of the 393rd Fighter Squadron in the US Air Force during WWII and a member of American Legion Post 299 in Pennsylvania for 46 years. He was an Electrical/Mechanical Engineer and retired from Westinghouse. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, David Ondic; sister, Catherine Gollner Smerik; and brother, Andrew Gollner.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lord & Stephens, WEST, with Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Smith Gollner; sons, Mike Gollner, Jr. and William Ondic; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina (Paul) Gollner Blackwell, Katherine (Dan) Gollner Smith and Margaret Gollner Hall; daughter-in-law, Debra Ondic; sister, Alicemae (John) Gollner Kukol; grandchildren, Scott, David Jr., Stephanie, Daniel, Sean, Jonathan, Mike, Emily, Matthew, Chloe and Caitlin; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any local American Legion Post.
Lord & Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
