Melvin Eugene Drake

Melvin Eugene Drake, age 63 of Comer passed away following a period of declining health. Mr. Drake was born in Royston, GA on June 14, 1948 to George and Beatrice Hulsey Drake. Mr. Drake was a master mechanic and a school bus driver for the Madison County School System. He was a Madison County Comminiser in district 4, a life long member of Friendship Baptist Church, attended mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens, as well as helping his wife with the Civil Air Control cadets. Mr. Drake will always be remembered for being a great man who ideally represented kindness and humility.

Mr. Drake preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife Marilyn Drake, children, Heather Spratlin, Erin Chandler, Rachel Julian, Chloe Chandler, Haley Hicks, Michael Kiser, Christopher Bridges; brother W.G. Drake, grandchildren, Glenn Spratlin II Ella and Brayden Bridges; and loving pet Rowdy Eugene.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with funeral service on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 3:00 PM from Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Davis, Rev. Dayton Logan, Dr. Tim Riley, and Mr. Otis Graham. Burial will be held in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
