Melba Joyce (Cooper) Garrett

Melba Joyce Garrett, 86, died Friday, March 1, 2019. Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late O'Dennis Pioneer Cooper and Rudethal Harris Cooper.  Mrs. Garrett was a graduate of Bogart High School and Attended Gainesville College.  She married L.G. Garrett, Jr. at the age of 15 and was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church and Pilot Club.  She worked for several medical providers, including her sons dental practice, as well as in banking and an Oconee County Commissioner.  Melba enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.  Survivors include her son; Dr. Tim (Renee') Garrett; siblings: Charles (Shirley) Cooper, Andy (Christa) Cooper and Gary Cooper; grandchildren: Clay Harris Garrett, Chase Hendrix Garrett and Libby Grace Garrett as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Garrett's life will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 4PM at Bethabara Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Bray officiating.  Interment will follow in the  church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2PM until 4PM prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethabara Baptist Church.  Lord and Stephens Funeral Homes, Watkinsville, GA is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
