Maurice Albert Maher

Maurice “Maury” Albert Maher, 80, husband of 60 years to Cecile Gamache Maher, died Monday, October 1, 2018. Born in New Bedford, Mass. he was the son of the late Carl and Jeanne P. Maher. Maury said daily “today is the best day of my life”. He never met a stranger, and he was the life of a gathering. He always enjoyed traveling and spending time at the lake. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael C. Maher; granddaughter: Leanne Collins and great grandson: Brayden Michael Maher, and sister Violette Soucy. Maury retired from Keebler and Bensons Old Home Bakery Sales Departments. He was the founder of Athens Marine in 1972. Mr. Maher was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the UGA Catholic Center. Survivors in addition to his wife include his sister, Cecile Girouard, two children: Suzanne Maher (Daniel) Dooley and Jeff (Susan) Maher; seven grandchildren: Michael Dooley, Matthew Dooley, Ashton (Cameron) Vulcano, Seth (Victoria) Maher, Christie Maher, Lauren Maher, Brandon (Ella) Maher, four great grandchildren: Charlie Collins, Reilly Collins, Lawson Maher and Zeke Maher, and daughter in law, Eva Maher. A mass celebrating Mr. Maher’s life will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 1:00 at the UGA Catholic Center with a reception. Following will be Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
