Mary Sue (Van Dover) Weisenburg

Mary Sue (Van Dover) Weisenburg passed away July 7, 2022 at home, surrounded by family. She was born on May 19, 1929 in Valley Park, Missouri to James K. and Ruth E. Van Dover. She married William Paul Weisenburg, in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1968.

Four children survive; M. Susan Harrawood (Gary), Martin County, Indianna; William Paul Weisenburg (Barb), Darby, Montana; Sally Berbaism (Don), Rushville, Illinois and Elizabeth Weisenburg, Athens, Georgia. Also, surving is one grandson, Aaron Thomas, one great granddaughter, Aliyah Thomas, and two sisters-in-law, Linda Van Dover, Conyers, Georgia; Gloria Van Dover, St. Louis, Missouri, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings; Robert, James, Cleve, Herb, Donald, Jack, Joseph, Kathy, and Tom Van Dover.

She was a member of Oconee Street Methodist Church. Mary received a bachelors degree from Webster College and a masters degree in social work from Washington University, both in St. Louis, Missouri. She served in various clinical and supervisory positions in mental health services in Illinois, Virginia, and the Washington, DC area.

After retirement, Mary moved to the Athens area and continued her dedication to social services in the community. She served for fourteen years as coordinator for Our Daily Bread and was honored as a member of the Action Ministries hall of fame in recognition of her services. She also served on the area Council For Aging and in many volunteer activities.

Mary was an avid reader and gardener. She was the author of numerous short stories and poems, some receiving publication. She was a noted hostes who enjoyed celebrating wit hfamily and friends.

Cremation was chosen as final disposition. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, the Nature Conservancy, or a favorite charity.
