Mary H. Strickland

Mary Hancock Strickland, 67, of Danielsville, died on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Born in Richmond County, GA, Mary was the daughter of Howard Gilbert Hancock and Mary Evelyn Sanders Hancock (later Kanakos). Mary attended nursing school in Augusta and worked her entire career in healthcare, especially as a hospice nurse. She was honored to serve patients and their families at their most vulnerable.

Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by one of her sisters, Annie Hammond.

Mary is survived by her children, Vickie Smith and Joseph (Courtney) Brinson; three sisters: Marie (Hugh) Reese, Julie (James) Adams, and Susan (Brett) Cross; two grandchildren: Kyle Roberts and Magan Haney; and two great-grandchildren: Slayde Roberts and Sutton Roberts.

The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the staff at Northside Hospital and the Hope Lodge for the exceptional compassion and service that Mary and her family received. Every employee from medical doctors to housekeeping went above and beyond for them.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Hagerstown, MD 21741 or at cancer.org, or to their Atlanta Hope Lodge. Mary’s family also encourages everyone to donate blood and especially platelets to help cancer patients like Mary.
