Mary Smith Ferguson

Mary Anna Smith Ferguson of Athens, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

She was the daughter of the late Lint and Elsie Smith of Union Point, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Thomas Ferguson and brothers, Jimmy, Ronald, Larry and Tony Smith. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Underwood (Mike) of Athens, Teri Gunter (Gary) of Bogart; sister, Dorothy Rhodes; brothers, Billy Smith (Jackie) and Mike Smith (Kay); three grandchildren, Eric Underwood (Tashia), Kelli Callaway (Cody) and Katie Ebel (Travis); four great grandchildren, Zeph and Ellie Underwood, Ava, Cooper and Anslei Ebel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ferguson was self-employed as an Avon representative for 25 years. Prior employment included the Credit Bureau of Atlanta, Credit Bureau of Athens and Athens General Hospital. She was a member of Oconee Heights Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and preschool coordinator for several years.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Quiet Oaks Healthcare Facility in Crawford, Georgia, for their wonderful care, compassion and kindness shown to our mother and our family.

Funeral services will be at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville, on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Rev. Ray Rhodes, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Pallbearers include Mike Underwood, Eric Underwood, Gary Gunter, Cody Callaway, Travis Ebel, and Andrew Rhodes.
