Mary Ann (Smith) Seagraves

Mary Ann Seagraves, 104, passed away on January 24, 2024, at Quiet Oaks Health Care in Crawford, Georgia. Mary was born in Oglethorpe, County, on October 10, 1919, to her beloved parents, Meigs and Pearl Burgess Smith. She treasured precious memories of growing up with her three brothers and five sisters on their family farm in Maxeys. In 1938, Mary married Robert Seagraves of Hull. They were the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Kitty and Montine. After Robert’s death in 1982, Mary continued to live in their homeplace in Sanford Community until 2020. During her lifetime Mary worked in Athens as a hairdresser, and then as a retailer and buyer at Davisons downtown and Macy’s at Georgia Square Mall until she retired in her late 70s. Mary was also a long-time member of Gordon’s Chapel Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Kitty Payne; grandson, Barry Fitzpatrick; and granddaughter, Julie Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Montine Davis, and son-in-law, Robert Davis; granddaughters Susan Boswell (John), Donna Sisk, and Amy Davis Sanford (Joyce); and grandson, Ben Davis (Jessica). Mary Ann is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Linda and Nancy Seagraves, and brother-in-law, Lonie Seagraves.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 28 at Gordon's Chapel Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
