Mary Lou Kesler Sapp
On Monday morning, December 18, 2023, our precious mother went to her eternal home. She passed peacefully at her home in Athens, GA. She was 89 years old and had been married to Eugene Sapp for almost 69 years. Daddy preceded her in death on August 1, 2021.
She is survived by her four sons and four daughters-in-law which she called daughters, eleven grandchildren, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. The families include Morris and Joy Sapp, Lamar and Tracie Sapp, David and Cathy Sapp, Jeff and Carol Sapp; eleven grandchildren, Kellie and Adam Speir, Kerrie and Mat Lang, Whitney and Briana Sapp, Taylor and Charles Merritt, Andrew and Kari Sapp, Amanda and Gabe Martin, Nate and Christy Sapp, Lauren and Kevin Cash, Todd and Jennifer Sapp, Vince and Jenna Sapp, Jake and Annie Kate Sapp; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
Mary was born on October 2, 1934 to Rev. Dennis and Mamie Kesler of Athens, GA. She was the baby of eleven children. All her siblings are passed now, but many nephews and nieces remain.
Mom began playing piano at the age of twelve for her father who pastored a church in Madison County. And she was playing the piano up until the last few years of her life. Mom and Dad were members of Crossroads Community Church in Athens, and both were the greatest examples of true followers of Christ. Mom had a very deep faith and trust in Jesus. Her love for her family and those who knew her was evident in the way she treated others. She always had a kind word and gentle touch for those she encountered. Being a grandmother was a badge of honor that she proudly wore all the time.
Those who knew her called her precious, kind, loving, gentle, and understanding. We just called he momma and we got to enjoy all those traits of hers. She loved all her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren with unending devotion, and her prayer for each one was for them to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
We are thankful for all she taught us, the example she set before us, and how she showed us to live a faithful, true life. We are grateful for her never-ending love her generosity, kindness and care for all her family. We know mom heard these words from her Lord: "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joys of your Lord."
Thank you, Mom, you are the best. We all love you so much.
The service will be on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 2pm, at Crossroads Community Church, 550 Harve Mathis Road, Athens, GA 30601.
