Mary Stephens Mathews

Mary Stephens Mathews, 93, of Athens, died peacefully on her birthday, June 10, 2015 surrounded by her family..
Mary was the daughter of Evie Chitwood, widow of Allen Mathews and was preceded in death by a son, Buddy Shook. She was a homemaker most of her life, but had worked at Dairy Pak, Reliance Electric and Thomas Textile. Mary attended Johnson Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Richard (Karen) Mathews of Winterville and Brenda Mathews of Smyrna; daughter-in-law, Rita Shook of Maxeys; grandchildren, Katie Fouche and Tanya (Chris) Ruark; great grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew and Zachary Ruark, Bentley Fouche and Kylan Shipman.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, EAST on Saturday, June 13, 2015 beginning at 1:00 PM. Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Bray, Pete Bray, Chris Ruark, Timothy Ruark, Matthew Ruark and Zachary Ruark.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the loving and compassionate staff of Hampton House Assisted Living in Colbert, and her special caregivers, Arlean Butler and Therese Martin.
