Mary Anne Bittner Kenner, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, pioneer, nurse, advocate, teacher and friend to countless generations of humans, and living creatures great and small, passed away peacefully on the rainy morning of Saturday, March 18 at Highland Hills.
We are all blessed to have received her expert care, wise compassion, zest for living, inspiring vision and beautiful love. Surrounded by family and loved ones, Mommy taught us that love is a verb, love is forever. Once described by a novelist as having a voice "such as a rose might use" she was a passionate and tireless advocate for causes she decided to support. After a long and happy married life together, traveling the world, living the life of the mind, she joins her beloved husband, Hugh Kenner, and other loved ones in the blessed divine, after a graceful, courageous journey through Alzheimers.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa and her son Robbie, daughters Cathy Anne, Margie, and Julie, sons John and Michael, as well as grandchildren Amanda Lynn, Isabel Rose, and Maxwell Hugh; Christopher, Carrie, and Shelley, Danielle, Courtney, Jessica, and Schyler; Andrew and Eric. The sight of MAK zipping around Athens in a blue Datsun 280-Z with her faithful white dog M'Lady riding shotgun will not soon be forgotten. She also found time to participate in numerous local groups and organizations. On her 75th birthday, March 23, 2007, Mayor Heidi Davidson issued an official proclamation making that date "Mary Anne Kenner Day" in the city of Athens.
Her 85th Birthday would have been this week, Thursday, March 23 2017. Her family circle is grateful for her living legacy of love and light!!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
