Mary (Nations) Johnson

September 10, 1927 — March 21, 2016

Ms. Mary Nations Johnson, 88, of Lexington GA died Monday, March 21, 2016. A native of Jackson County N.C., she was the daughter of the late Fred D. and Bertha Ward Nations. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Alfred A. Johnson, sisters Hazel Lee Nations, Lois N. White, and brothers John H. Nations and Fred D. Nations Jr.
She was a loving mother and lived her life with grace and dignity and always put the need of others first. Ms. Johnson was a homemaker and author of her own cookbook "Mary J's Southern Traditions", and "Tar Heels, Red Clay and Antidotes". She loved to cook and was famous for her four-day coconut cake. She enjoyed quilting, painting, writing, and reading. She graduated from Crawford High School and Southern Business University in Atlanta, GA.
Ms. Johnson was a member of the UDC and the Lexington Baptist Church, where she was a nursery teacher for many years. She and her late husband worked with and supported the youth of their church. They believed that the children are our future and established a fund for the underprivileged children.
Survivors include her three children, son and daughter-in-law Darryl and Diane Johnson of Watkinsville, daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Thomas Vidmar of Crawford, and Madelyn and Kurt McKinnon of Hudson FL, six grandchildren, Nikki (Kerry) Roberts, Alex (Chrystina) Vidmar, Andrea (Daniel) Deaton, Jessica (John), Hannan, Natalie (Greg) Snow and Christopher (Elyse) McKinnon and step-grandson Josh (Lauren) Goodman, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Joan Marable and Eva Nations, three brothers, Harold Nations, Ora Nations, and Glenn Nations.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Lord and Stephens East Chapel. Rev. Harry Warren will officiate. Interment will be at Welcome Avenue Holiness Church Cemetery, Crawford, GA.
