Mary Young Hendershott

Mrs. Mary Young Hendershott, age 84 of Athens, Georgia passed away at her home, Monday, June 28, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was a native of Angier, North Carolina and graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro before beginning careers in agriculture, education, music, and business. In 1970, she established Charmar Flower and Gift Shop, an Athens garden center and florist. She was also known as one of Athens' friendliest landlords. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C.R. Young of Angier, NC. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Charles H. Hendershott and her sister Geraline Young Ward of Raleigh, NC and brother Norwood Young of Beaufort, NC. Mary is survived by her brother Jay Carl Young of Raleigh, NC and her sons and their wives, Gary and Peggy Butts of Bal Harbour, FL and Bruce and Pam Butts of Winterville, GA. She is also survived by step children Larry Hendershott, David Hendershott, Carol Barnett, Ronnie Hendershott and Bobbie Harris, grandchildren Chris Butts, Jason Butts, Bryan Echols and Tiffany Carr, great grandchildren Charlie, Maggie and Mary Scott Butts, Chandler and Gabrielle Echols, Charlie and Caroline Carr and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mary's wonderful caregivers and neighbors who made it possible for her to live in the comfort of her home during her last year.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Lord and Stephens, East. Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 3:30 PM at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC.
