Mary Ann Crane, 81, of Athens died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her home.
A native of Milwaukee, WI, Mrs. Crane was the daughter of the late Gerald W. Lohf and Irene E. Lohf. She married and moved to Grand Blanc MI with her husband, where they raised two children. Mrs. Crane graduated from The University of Michigan - Flint and then had a successful and gratifying career with A. C. Spark Plug, General Motors until retiring in 1988. She later moved to Athens, GA to be close to her grandsons.
Mrs. Crane devoted her life not only to her family but in service to each of the three communities in which she lived. In Milwaukee, she volunteered with the Urban League and was president of the Whitefish Bay Women's Club. She was also a past Honored Queen of Job's Daughters. In Grand Blanc, she served with the Women's Garden Club, the Grand Blanc Beautification League, the Grand Blanc Planning Commission, the League of Women Voters in Flint MI, and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Flint, MI. She was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Grand Blanc and served as President. An avid reader, Mrs. Crane also worked for many years with the friends group to organize and raise funds for the building of the Grand Blanc-McFarlan Public Library. While in Athens, Mrs. Crane volunteered on the Board of the Girl Scouts of NE Georgia, participated in the Senior Leadership Academy, was a member of the Rotary Club and spent many years volunteering in the Athens Regional Medical Center radiation oncology department.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Crane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gregory L. Crane of Athens, son and daughter-in-law Gregory Jr. and Christine Crane of Linden, MI, a daughter and son-in-law Allison and Dennis O'Connell of Athens, grandsons Daniel O'Connell and Robert O'Connell of Athens, and brother and sister-in-law Gerald Jr. and Judy Lohf, of Chagrin Falls, OH.
