Mary Emma Compton, 84, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Athens, she was the daughter of the late John H. Williams and Mary Verona Morgan Williams. She retired from advertising at the Athens Banner-Herald and was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law; Bennie Warren (Theresa Llewellyn) Compton Jr. of Nicholson, Gene N. (Denise E.) Compton of Athens; brothers Bobby Williams, Johnny Williams; sister: Nancy Williams, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Crooked Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Miles and the Rev. Jerry Varnadoe officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandchildren Tammy Kittle, Scott Compton, Michael Compton, Steven Compton, Chris Compton, Sherry Henderson, William Burell Jr. and nephew Carroll Puckett.
