Athens - Mary Bruce Clendening, 88, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Logan W.V., she was the daughter of the late Howard Newton Clendening and Emilie Maupin Clendening. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Professor Emeritus from the University of Georgia retiring in 1981 after 20 years, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, United Daughters of the Confederacy, National Huguenot Society and Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include her nephews and nieces: William Howard Clendening, Paul Campbell Clendening, Candice Clendening, Jane Clendening and Lauren Clendening.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church of Athens with the Rev. Dr. John Kipp officiating.
