Marvin Rogers Elrod, 82, of Carnesville Ga, passed on Jan 31st, 2017. A retired General Electric Turbine Division engineer, he began as a machinist at LeTourneau in Toccoa. In the early 1960's he worked at the Oak Ridge Tennessee nuclear defense facility. In the 1970's he joined General Electric where he remained until he retired. A lifelong lover of science and technology, he also enjoyed his gun hobby, cattle farming and his John Deere tractor.
He was married twice, first to Marjorie Touchton and then to Helen Kelley Macomson.
He was predeceased by his son Lance. He is survived by his daughter Lynne Elrod of Titusville, Florida, both wives, his loving nieces and nephews, and many friends.
A graveside service will be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens Lavonia on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 1 PM. Lynne Elrod will officiate and she will deliver a eulogy.
Flowers are optional. Donations in Mr. Elrod's name to the American Heart Association are appreciated.
