Colonel Marvin Blaine Doster, US Army (Retired), 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
Born in Madison County, Marvin was the son of the late Garnett Curtis and Lucy Langford Doster.
Marvin received his Bachelor's degree from North Georgia College and Masters Degree in Physical Education from the University of Georgia. He retired from the University as Director of Small Business Development.
He was an active member and Deacon at Prince Avenue Baptist Church for more than 50 years and a member of Bill Hartley's Sunday School Class. Marvin also spent more than 30 years in the US Army and Army Reserve and attained the rank of full Colonel. He was an Infantry officer leading soldiers at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA and in reserve units throughout North Georgia.
Our loving God and all the angels in Heaven have no doubt welcomed Marvin home with arms and hearts wide open. A member of what has come to be called "The Greatest Generation", Marvin was the very mold from which God caste these great Americans. Un-bending in his love and devotion to Mary Ann, his one and only true love he met while attending North Georgia College. His love for his four daughters and their families, his extended church family and his pride in America were equally grounded in Christian faith and strong moral values. Anyone who knows Marvin Doster would describe him as the compass that ensured his family would never stray too far off course. He was also the rock on which they knew they could always lean.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 10th at 2:00 PM at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ricketts and Dr. Stewart B. Simms, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30PM until service time.
