Martha S. Paradise, 99, died December 20, 2010.
A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Paradise was a daughter of the late Walton Smith and Lucy Baily Smith. She was married to the late Cullen Bryant Paradise. She graduated from the University of Georgia and taught in the Oglethorpe County School System for forty years. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1972-1973. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, served as a board member of Family and Children Services and as long as her health permitted, an active member of The Retired Teachers Association. She had been retired for thirty-five years. Mrs. Paradise was currently the second oldest member of Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by one sister, Bessie Mae Smith Paradise; a beloved nephew and wife, Mark A. and Mary Paradise, and their children, Melanie Martha Paradise and Cullen Bryant Paradise, II; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Mask officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Lord and Stephens Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
