Martha Jean Bryant, age 73, of Lexington, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 1, 2013. She was the wife of Pope Hoyt "Bud" Bryant Jr. for 47 years; Bud preceded her in death on June 25, 2013.
Born on January 26, 1940, in Morgan County, Jean was the daughter of the late Henry Newton Shaw Sr. and Mae Etna Spinks Shaw, and was raised in Athens and in Jackson County. She was the former wife of Franklin "Toby" Gee, president of former country singer Boxcar Willie's fan club, and a devoted member of Clouds Creek Baptist Church.
Jean will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, and will be especially missed by her grandchildren, who she loved and adored with all her heart.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her children, Ronald Lewis Bryant and Anita Karen Bryant; granddaughter, Faith Hope Coker; brothers, Jack and Michael Shaw; and several nephews.
Jean was truly blessed during her life. She leaves behind her son's widow, Carol Bryant, of Belvedere, S.C.; sons, Terry (Linda Cowart) Bryant, of Lexington, Barry (Teresa) Gee, of Arnoldsville, and Randall "Randy" (Elaine) Bryant, of Winterville; daughters, Rita (Darrell) Honea, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Deborah (David) Coker, of Lexington; siblings, Henry Newton Shaw Jr., Bill Shaw, Janice Williamson, Sandra (Chris) Colquitt, David Shaw, and Melissa (Mike) Carithers; 26 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 5, at Clouds Creek Baptist Church, in Crawford. Interment will follow at the Sandy Cross Baptist Church cemetery, in Lexington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clouds Creek Baptist Church or a charity of the giver's choice.
