Marshall James Carey

Marshall James Carey, 79, died Sunday, January 27, 2013. A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Harold and Julia Hill Carey. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stan Carey and brothers, Artis and Kenneth Carey.
He served his county in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Marshall was the founder of the Shade Tree Racing, which he was very passionate about and he also loved to fish. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Leola Bray Carey; children, Gail (Tim) Richey, Mark (Martha) Carey, and Brant Carey, all of Hull; brother, Jack Carey of Gainesville; sisters, Miron Bentley of Wilksboro, NC, Gatha Dixon of Athens; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Union Baptist Church at 11AM with Rev. Billy Owensby officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Bennett, Brian Hayes, Keith Hardy, Kole Hardy, Royce Bray, Kevin Scott, Craig Self, and Jimmy Crowe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the funeral home.
