Mark Henry Delafchell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Henry Delafchell of Athens, Ga. Mark was born on January 25, 1971 and left us too soon on May 9, 2024.

Mark was the Senior Director of Facilities & Capital Projects at the University of Georgia Athletic department, where he started working in 2003. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in Education, Sport Management in 2014. Mark worked his way up the ranks of the UGA Athletic Department with his persevering work ethic, friendliness, and dedication. He was named the University of Georgia Athletic Association's Employee of the Year in 2015.

Josh Brooks, the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics, said, "For the past 2 decades, Mark has been the cornerstone of our Athletics team, known for his incredible work ethic, his customer service, jovial laugh and love for UGA and our Athletic Department."

Mark was a caring member of the Athens community who was always willing to lend a hand or fix a car.  Radiating friendliness and compassion, his legacy will live on in all the friends, family, and coworkers that he supported so much over the years. 

He was a caring partner to the love of his life, Julie Barnett as well as a dutiful son, and a caring brother. Mark is survived by his mother Setsuko, his father Robert, and his brother Michael.

A service will be held on Thursday May 16, 2024 at 10am at the UGA Chapel on North Campus with a private event to follow. The Chapel is located at 109 Herty Dr, Athens, GA 30602.

The service will be officiated by Pastor Jonathan Evans. The Honorary pallbearers are David Blasen, Brent Cleveland, Amadou Diop, Stephen McGarrity, Lisa Moss, Jonathan Paulish, Eric Rosado, and Matt Walter.
